Raila Odinga mull over a fifth Kenya presidential bid

Sources from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) have confirmed that Raila Odinga, Kenya’s opposition leader will contest the 2022 election. A senior member of his party, Senator James Orengo confirmed that Mr. Odinga will be making a fifth attempt at clinching the presidency.

In 2017, after he lost the presidential election to the incumbent, Uhuru Kenyatta, Raila Odinga contested the results and organised his own inauguration where he was sworn in as “the people’s president.” This move was greeted with a lot of unrest in Kenya.

The current Deputy President of Kenya, William Ruto has got his eyes fixated on the presidency and this anticipated move by Raila Odinga could tilt the equilibrium in his base. After the 2017 electioneering unrest, Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga are both working assiduously to reconcile and unite the country.
