South Africa’s Minister of Environmental Affairs, Edna Molewa has died today at the age of 61. ANC spokesperson, Pule Mabe confirmed Molewa’s death and in an issued statement said that her death has left “South Africa poorer given her role in advancing the country’s transformation agenda.”
Prior to being appointed to her current role in 2010, Molewa was the Minister of Social Development and the first female Premier of the North West. She previously served as the Deputy President of the South African Commercial, Catering, and Allied Workers Union (SACCAWU) and is a member of the ANC’s national executive committee.
