Zambian State-Owned Newspaper publishes article in Chinese

Zambia state-owned newspaper, The Times of Zambia published a Chinese version of its Tuesday, October 2 lead story which reported that relations with power blocs in the East or West will be based on national interest. There was outrage by some Zambians on Twitter about this development. The government has given an official response why they did that.

The Zambian Government through its Information Minister, Dora Siliya gave a response that it was a business decision meant to boost readership and tap into the Chinese ad market. She tweeted, “Times of Zambia aiming to increase revenue by targeting the Chinese market. Today’s edition has a Chinese version of top story. They want to tap into Chinese advertising. Who moved my cheese? Times of Zambia responding,”
