Mozambique seizes imported chicken from South Africa

The custom agency in Mozambique, Autoridade Tributaria de Mocambique has seized more than 300 boxes of frozen chicken smuggled on the Ressanio Garcia border.

Mozambique shares a border with South Africa. The boxes were hidden in plain sight and entered the country without paying the requisite levies totalling about US$4,173.

Besides not paying the levies, they also contravened other rules according to Maputo Director of Customs, Leonel Vasco.

Mozambique imports from South Africa in the 2019 fiscal year was about US$3.65 Billion.
