Burkina Faso: Six killed in suspected Jihadist siege

Six people, five soldiers and a civilian were killed in a mines explosion in Burkina Faso. The unfortunate incident occurred on Saturday evening when a vehicle conveying the soldiers hit an explosive device that detonated.

Islamic extremists are moving into the region in droves as reported by the Governor of the region, Ousmane Traore. Burkina Faso and its capital city, Ouagadougou has been at the epicentre of a terrorist onslaught for some years now.

The backdrop: There has been a couple of interventionist policies to quelling the instability across the region with the creation of the G5 Sahel Force by France that comprises of five countries within the Sahel region namely – Burkina Faso, Mali, Chad, Niger and Mauritania. So, far, every effort expended in ridding terrorists off the region has proven abortive.
