Gambia launches Truth & Reconciliation Commission to probe Yahya Jammeh’s regime

The Gambia has set up a truth and reconciliation commission to buttress the human rights violations and abuses that include torture, rape, disappearances, summary executions that took place during the administration of ex-President, Yahya Jammeh.

In a statement by President Adama Barrow,Today marks… the beginning of the much-anticipated mechanism that is expected to ensure healing, justice and proper documentation of the rights violations and abuses that took place in the previous regime.”

The 11-member commission will hold witness hearings into Yahya Jammeh’s 22-year era of oppression, prosecuting those found guilty and availing the much-needed closure to the victims of his brutal reign.
